Molière
Last night Alana and I dined out on Lygon street at Trotters. Fabulous meal, great wine, cosy place, and reasonably priced. We then went out to a free screening of Molière at the Nova which was one of the best French films I have ever seen.
I had forgotten what great French films are like and Molière is a great French film. Molière is the stage name of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin a 17th century playwright and actor who wrote predominantly comedies and satires. The film details his life as a young man and how he came to write comedies. The film, by writer-director Laurent Tirard and Grégoire Vigneron is true to his life as it is a both a comedy, a tragedy, but most of all a romantic film.
A plot synopsis is difficult to articulate as it is complicated, brilliantly written, and unexpected. I have not had a film which has made me laugh so much also make me as teary. I suppose that is the characteristic of true drama, not all of life's drama is necessarily easily captured by poe faced serious acting, some of life is far more elegantly encapsulated by comedy.
Strongly recommend, but it has a limited release, so see it while you can. 4/5 stars.

Have you seen Eric Rohmer's Four Seasons? (not trilogy, whatever the four-part equivalent of trilogy is. haha) Anyway, ull of real-life drama and all the more fascinating for it.By the way, I've tagged you for a meme, the 5 Weird or Random Things About Yourself one.
Hi Ladlitter,
no, I haven't seen Eric Rohmer's four seasons. Are they done by the same guy who did the 3 colours series? And I had done well to avoid those things, which I'm not sure qualify as memes to tell the truth. But anyway I've done it and it was a lot harder than I thought!
Cheers,
Ed
Rohmer didn't do 3 Colours - that was Krzysztof Kieslowski. Rohmer (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006445/) was one of the French Nouvelle Vague directors (Truffaut; Godard; Resnais et al)who emerged in the late 50s after having been critics with the Cahiers du Cinema magazine.
Some bloggers find memes tedious. Thanks for putting yours in.
