Brother's art show

My terribly talented brother Sam is part of an art exhibition that is on this weekend Saturday 24th of May (and perhaps Sunday 25th of May). Opening night is from 7 to 9 pm.

He has been doing collaborative work with an artist named Rosie King, which I think is great as a lot of artistic endeavor is highly individualized activity.

The artwork is being displayed in Gallery 696 in Brunswick, which is located at 696 (obviously) Sydney road. The gallery does not seem to have updated its website since April though. But it is on this weekend!

If you are in the area and feel like seeing some new Australian art you should check it out.

Edit: Last night we went to my brother's opening night and chatted and drank with artists. My brothers and his collaborator Rosie both do detailed fantastical and slightly creepy sketches. They also use a variety of media to supplement their work. I loved them. The gallery also had many other artists work on display. I spoke with the gallery owner, a lovely woman with bright pink hair, whose name escapes me. I mentioned that the website was a little out of date and she said that the gallery's MySpace page is up to date. She also told me that Gallery 696 features the art work of 180 Melbourne artists, and while the gallery has work of known artists that the project of the gallery is to assist people who are just starting out, because it is difficult to get a go with many other galleries until an artist had done a couple of shows already. This is basically a catch 22 scenario a little like where you can't get the job until you have experience and you can't have experience until you get the job. So Gallery 696 offers a start for many people who might not get their work into the public eye, which I think is great. So if you are ever in old Melbourne town with some time on your hands I'd hop along to the gallery which is open from 11am-7pm Wednesday to Sunday.
