The Puma, The Stranger & The Mountain
Yesterday Alana and I went and checked out a friend's art in the Campbell Arcade (Degraves street subway).
The exhibition is called The Puma, The Stranger & The Mountain by Trevor Flinn and Ceclia Fogelberg. My first impressions were that it seems to be exploring how the Australian imagination and folklore is intimately connected to who we are, or perhaps who we think we are.
Trev is a sculptor who lives predominantly in Dunkeld which is in the Western Districts. I met Trev through his brother Derek, who is a lovely man and a horribly talented writer. Trev's sister Verona is a also a great painter, I like her work anyway. I've gone to stay at his folk's place while I was working on a previous draft of my thesis. His parents kindly let me stay in a cute little cottage on the property and write.
A little while ago, during the lead up to Christmas Trev sculpted a bit of a devilish Santa Claus on his folk's front lawn. Then later on at Easter Trev sculpted an Easter Bunny with an axe, sneaking up on Santa, who moved a little closer each day.
The opening night is on tomorrow (Friday 16th May) between 6-8pm. If you are interested in sculpture check it out while the art is displayed there, or get along to the opening.
