Let the right one in

Last night we went to see a movie with my brother as part of the Melbourne Film Festival.

My brother had organized tickets for the Swedish film Let the right one in. Or Låt den rätte komma in. Based on one of my brother's favorite horror books.

It is a unique vampire love story set in the 1980s between a 12 year old boy, Oskar and a 12 year old vampire girl Eli, who has been 12 for quite some time. Our hero, Oskar, is a somewhat odd little boy, whose parents have split up and who is bullied at school. Eli moves in with her 'father' to a flat adjacent to Oskar's and the two begin an lovely and unusual relationship. All, however, does not run smoothly. Eli's 'father' is not really her father at all. More a sort of servant, perhaps also in love with her. Blood runs and murders occur, as Eli must still drink blood to survive.

All up a totally captivating film, beautifully shot with tremendous performances from the actors.

4 blood splatters out of 5.

As I've been a bad blogger, not posting recently at all. I thought I'd put up a few fun, funny and interesting links.
